Islamic Relief is an international NGO founded in Birmingham, UK, in 1984. It has a consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council and a member of the International Islamic Council for Relief. Islamic Relief works on helping the needy away from race, religion or gender. IR has offices and representatives spread in all over the world; all help in achieving economic prosperity and social development in the poor countries through relief and developmental programmes with partnerships with local societies. IR work includes emergency relief, development and sponsoring orphans. In spite of the different places in the world that receive IR support and concern, IR focuses its work in Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bangladesh, Chechnya, Palestine, India, Pakistan and Sudan.
